This was taken in May of 2001.  I had the pleasure of being accompanied by Mr. Florent Lambert who gave me a personal tour of the La Roumiere battle site.  This is a Memorial Mr. Lambert designed, funded, and erected in honor of the sacrifices of the men who fought in this area.  Mr. Lambert, now deceased, was a teenager living in Melines, Belgium when the fighting took place.  It was originally believed that Cpl. Shields had been crushed by a German tank.  However, Florent Lambert examined Cpl. Shields body, at that time, and determined that Cpl. Shields had been killed by machinegun fire prior to being rolled over by the tank.
